Hey Calgary YSA!

Thanks so much to the Calgary Stake and Frazer Wilde (President of Mount Royal’s Latter-day Saint Student Association) for putting on a fantastic outdoor dance on Friday night! And we were blessed with a perfect evening (hooray for faith and prayers for good weather!).

Outdoor Dance!!

THIS Friday, August 6th. Pray for good weather because this will be an OUTDOOR dance!!!

The dance will be held on an outdoor patio at Mount Royal University. The Calgary Stake reps are going nice and early to set up lots of signs for how to find it (or just follow your ears).

First – the theme:
Once upon a time, in an August long past, a certain former world power decided to ban foreign hairstyles. In remembrance of that, the theme  suggestion chosen by the Calgary Stake to represent the month of August at the dance is HAIR MONTH! We want to see  some awesome hairstyles – from the most  original to the most skillfully imitated. Sweet prizes will be awarded  for those with the best hairstyles. (Flock of Seagulls, anyone?)

Now for directions:

- Take the Mount Royal Gate exit from Crowchild Trail

- drive straight towards the south end of campus (in the distance you will see some lovely big new wall thingeys that say “Mount Royal University” on them)

- if you want to park for free, take your first right (BEFORE the lights at Richard Rd) and park in the parking lot for the Real Estate Council of Alberta (the big office building to your right)

- if you don’t mind paying $4 for parking, and want to park closer, then go to Lot 8 (located outside the East Entrance)

- regardless, once out of your car, head towards the clock tower, near the outdoor amphitheatre, and look for the signs!

Note: NO outside food is allowed at this event (at the request of the school), so please eat before or after you come. Make it a date!

STAMPEDE ACTIVITY

Friday, July 9th. Yeeeehaw! Saddle up your hosses and bring your posse on down to Lake Bonavista (757 Lake Bonavista Dr SE) from
6-9 pm for swimming, games and watermelon. After that, slap on your favourite western duds and mosey on over to Parkland Chapel from 9:30-midnight for some Stampede-themed activities and a boot-scooting good-timey dance!

This FRIDAY!

SEMESTER BREAK ACTIVITY

THIS Friday, June 25th. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, all of our well-laid plans fell through! So we have a completely different activity for you instead!

? We’ll be meeting at Picnic Site #4 on the West end of Bowness Park (8900 48th Ave NW, just below C.O.P.) at 7 pm for a hot dog roast, frisbee, soccer, catch, etc. We’re also right beside the Spray Pool, so bring some squirt guns if you dare!

? After hanging out at the park, we’re off to 17th Ave Chapel for a dance from 10 pm – midnight.

Please bring cans!

Also! We are combining this with a bit of a service activity in the form of a bottle drive!! Please bring any and all bottles you can find to the park (we will have recycling bins there). The proceeds will go to a non-profit fundraising project called “Cans for Cambodia” – helping to finish a school for kids there.

Dear Calgary YSA,

The Super Activity was a great success!! A big thanks to all who came and participated, and an even bigger thanks to all those who worked so hard to plan everything. Each of your stake reps were an integral part of the conference, so make sure to thank them when you see them.

INSTITUTE — No classes this week! Enjoy the sun!

DANCE — May 28th @ 9:30pm at the North Stake Centre. Our next dance is going to be right out of this world! Dress up in space themed attire (aliens, planets, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.) to compete for prizes!

No fireside this month, so we’ll see you at the dance!

Hi Calgary YSA!

Thanks for being patient and understanding during our technical difficulties at the broadcast last week. And thanks to Ben Drolet for volunteering his iPhone!

INSTITUTE — Yay! Classes start this week! Register at www.ldsces.org/calgary. Don’t know which class to take? Well, show up at either building at 7 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays, and there will be a class!

SUPER ACTIVITY — May 14th-16th. Go to www.calgaryysa.org to learn more, and to register!! Registration is increasing – we’re at about 260 now! If you have responded as a ‘maybe’ on the unofficial Facebook event page, please register anyhow, so we know how many we may be planning for.

It’s the last week to tell your stake reps if you have art or photography to submit for the talent show! Tell them today!

IRC Announcements – April 27

Hi Calgary YSA!

Congratulations to all those who received Certificates of Achievement, Advanced Achievement, or who graduated from Institute! The nice thing about something like the Gospel, is that you can never learn everything. Aren’t we grateful for the chance to enroll in Institute!

INSTITUTE – There are still no classes this week, but they’ll be starting up next week! The new semester classes are posted on www.ldsces.org/calgary

SUPER ACTIVITY – May 14th-16th. Go to www.calgaryysa.org to learn more, and to register!! Registration ensures we have enough food – so don’t feel you need to ‘commit’ to anything (the scary ‘c’ word). Register by Saturday to be entered into a draw for a prize!!

Also, if you are a PHOTOGRAPHER or an ARTIST, we’d love to showcase a piece of your work at the Talent Show! Contact your Stake Reps before May 9th to be included. If you don’t know who they are, email www.calgaryysafeedback@gmail.com.
